Deciding what to buy for your Airbnb can be overwhelming, expensive, and time-consuming. This comprehensive room-by-room buying guide will help you put the right products in the right place at the right price, while keeping two important things in mind: 5-Star Reviews and Profitability.

Bedroom

Guests will typically spend more time sleeping in their bed than any other single activity during their trip. Getting a good night sleep is an expectation and it’s all about comfort- but you don’t have to break the bank.

Bed Frame

Don’t even THINK about plopping your box spring and mattress directly on the ground! In fact, ditch the box spring completely and opt for a platform bed. They look better in photos (helping you get the booking), feel better in person (helping with that 5-star review) and are much more sturdy and durable (saving you money in the long run).

Choose a platform bed frame that sits flat on the ground if possible (even better if it has storage drawers). This will save time for your cleaning team and prevent guests from accidentally leaving behind socks, clothes, and other personal items.

Box Spring

If you take our advice and get a platform bed frame then you won’t need a box spring since the platform bed frame itself provides the necessary support. Otherwise, try buying a mattress that comes bundled with a box spring.

Mattress

As a short-term rental, you’re going to host a wide variety of people with a wide variety of tastes. Ignore your own tastes when buying the mattress and choose using the Goldilocks method: not too hard + not too soft = just right.

You’ll want to consider the option of spring mattresses vs memory foam mattresses but for achieving a balance that pleases the most people, we recommend going with a hybrid mattress. It will give your guests the best of both worlds and the highest chance for a good night of sleep, regardless of their mattress preferences.

Of course the mattress size greatly affects the mattress price, but don’t worry about that- you need to choose the bed size that best fits the room for your intended purpose and target audience.

Headboard

If you’re not in the market for a new bed frame you should at least consider adding a headboard if you don’t already have one. Beds without headboards tend to make the room look incomplete and underwhelming.

There are millions of headboards to choose from on sites like Wayfair and Amazon, just make sure that (1) the style and colors match the rest of your room, and (2) they have 4+ stars and great customer reviews.
